Your Workings For Chain Reaction

1) Solve: 2(x + 4) + 3(x – 2) = 3x + 8

A =

2) Use your answer from Q1 as “a”. Now solve: 4x – (2a – x + 1) = 13

B =

3) Use your answer from Q2 as “b”. Expand and simplify: (x + 3)(x + b) – x² — what is the coefficient of x?

C =

4) Use your answer from Q3 as “c”. Solve: 5x – c = 15

D =

5) Use your answer from Q4 as “d”. Factorise: x² – dx + 4.84

Chain Reaction – Medium

Carry your labels consistently: if Step 2 says “use your answer from Q1 as a”, make sure you keep using that exact label.

  • Write “Given a = …” at the top of the next step.
  • Substitute once, then simplify.
  • Box the final result and rename it exactly as the puzzle requests (b, c, d…).

Tip: if you ever end up with awkward numbers, pause and re-check the previous step — Medium chains often stay fairly neat.
